Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 7, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Matsu LLC ("we", "us", or "our") handles personal information and user data within the iPad application "Acto|Handwritten Planner" (the "App").
Summary: The App does not transmit your notes to our servers. Handwriting recognition (OCR) runs entirely on your device, and iCloud sync stores data only inside your own Apple ID account through Apple's iCloud service.
1. Information We Handle
1-1. Data You Create in the App
The following data is stored only on your device and your own iCloud account. It is never transmitted to our servers.
- Handwritten strokes (PencilKit drawing data made with Apple Pencil or other styli)
- Project names, tasks, notes, and other text content
- App settings (theme, language, display options)
- OCR index data (results of on-device handwriting recognition)
1-2. Information Received Automatically
- App Store and subscription information: To verify in-app purchase entitlements (Premium plan, content store), the App receives purchase receipts via Apple's StoreKit 2. We only see whether a purchase exists and which plan applies — we do not receive your Apple ID or payment details.
- App Analytics (optional): If you have enabled it in iOS Settings, we may receive anonymized usage statistics (crash reports, launches, screen flow) provided by Apple's App Analytics. These do not contain personally identifiable information.
2. How We Use Information
- To provide core features of the App (handwriting, page management, search, themes)
- To synchronize data between your iPads via iCloud
- To verify subscription state and unlock entitled features
- To diagnose bugs and improve the App
3. No Sharing With Third Parties
We do not sell or share your notes with third parties. The App contains no third-party analytics SDKs (such as Google Analytics, Firebase, Mixpanel) and no third-party advertising networks.
4. iCloud (CloudKit)
Sync uses Apple's CloudKit framework and stores data in your own iCloud private database. We do not have a means to access this database directly. Other iPads signed in with the same Apple ID can read and edit your data.
You can disable Acto's iCloud usage from iOS Settings → Apple ID → iCloud. New data will then be stored only on the device.
5. On-Device Handwriting OCR
Acto's Premium "handwriting search" feature uses Apple's Vision framework (VNRecognizeTextRequest). All processing happens on your device. No image data and no recognized text is transmitted to our servers or any third party.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
Data you create in the App is retained on your device and in iCloud until you delete it from within the App or uninstall the App. Uninstalling removes the data on the device. To remove data stored in iCloud, go to iOS Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Storage → Acto.
7. Children
The App does not have an age restriction. However, because it involves data management and in-app purchases, children should use the App under the supervision of a parent or guardian.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. The updated Policy takes effect when posted on this page. We will provide notice of material changes within the App or on our support page.
